Fast charging raises available power compared with basic USB charging, but a compatible system does not simply send the adapter’s full printed wattage into every connected device. With USB Power Delivery (USB PD), the charger advertises supported power options and the receiving device requests what it can use. USB-IF describes this as a system in which devices take the power they require, including low-power devices negotiating only a low-power level.1
